Some pre-metal from Jefferson Airplane before they morphed into the mediocre Jefferson Starship. Jack Casady’s bass really shines on this. The interplay between him and Kaukonen is a preview of what is to come later in Hot Tuna. I saw Hot Tuna in the mid 70’s in Springfield Missouri when I was on a temp assignment for IBM. Hot Tuna is still performing.

  1. I always thought that Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady were the most interesting of the Airplane. And the best musicians. Yes, they still tour, even in their 70’s. Normally, I would find that sad. Poor old guys, didn’t invest well, have to work to keep the cash coming in. But, I don’t feel that way about them. They both have done things on their own terms. When they tour, it is in small venues with a more personal feel. Jorma owns Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio, which serves as a camp for musicians that want to learn from masters. Listening to their interviews, they are interesting and down to earth. No BS, which is unusual for stars that made their bones in the 60’s.
