It was late 1967. I was on the USS Comstock (LSD-19) somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I had a transistor radio and I picked up a radio station and this was playing. Wow! Who the heck is this? Great song! First time I ever heard The Who.

They were a groundbreaking group.
and from the Comstock you could see for about 17 miles…..
Saw them in concert in ’79 (yes, THAT concert)
‘Twas a great show abeit without Moon the Loon.
One of Keith Moon’s better efforts, once you understood that he played drum riffs rather than setting a steady rhythm for the rest of the band.
And Entwhistle, of course, actually played his bass more like a guitar than any typical bass player could possibly handle – I love watching his fingers absolutely fly across those frets!
I’ve seen them in numerous cities across the country in the 70’s and early 80’s – actually saw them play an encore in the old Chicago Stadium, back when they NEVER did that, on the Quadrophrenia tour. One of the very first laser light shows, back in 1975. Simply awesome.
And talk about being relevant today!
We’ll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of our wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song
I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled again
The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that’s all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain’t changed
‘Cause the banners, they are flown in the last war
I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled again
No, no!
I’ll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I’ll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Oh I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?
There’s nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by the bye
And a parting on the left
Is now a parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight
I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled again
Don’t get fooled again
No, no!
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss
The second album by “Chicago” came out in 1970, and they dedicated their album to “the revolution”.
I still say, best drum solo ever.
Damn shame about the child porn/bisexual shit in 2002 that surfaced surrounding The Who. By the way, where’s Tom Hanks, and why did he delete three years of tweets?
