Rolling power outages could sweep across the state through Tuesday if demand outpaces supply as expected because of the bitter cold.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which operates the state’s power grid, emphasized Texans should reduce energy consumption as temperatures dropped. The grid could reach unprecedented winter demands, said Dan Woodfin, ERCOT’s senior director of system operations.
Time to fire up all of those windmills.
Demand is one of the issues facing the power grid, but the cold is causing other problems, too. Electric generators are vying for natural gas as people turn to that fuel for heating. Icy conditions also knocked out almost half of the state’s wind power generation capacity as wind turbines froze across the state, Woodfin added.
Oooops! Betcha wish you had some coal fired plants and some nuclear power.
During this stretch of global warming records are being set for low temperatures throughout the US and Canada.

Germany is held up as the world’s solar and wind capital by “renewables luvvies” but Germans are freezing through winter due to “millions of solar panels blanketed in snow” and turbines sitting idle, according to Rowan Dean.
“Germany’s long been held up by the likes of these renewable luvvies, they say Germany’s the world’s great wind and solar capital,” Mr Dean said.
“But as we speak millions of solar panels are blanketed in snow and 30,000 wind turbines are sitting idle because there’s no wind.
“Freezing Germans shivering in their lederhosen’s are desperate for coal fired power to heat up their wurst and sauerkraut.”
Too bad they shut down all of the coal plants and closed the coal mines. They also got rid of the nuke plants. This is the Green New Deal in action. No wind, no sun, no electricity.

I’d love a solar future, but the numbers must add up or the whole thing is counterproductive, consuming more resources than it produces. For this reason I’m skeptical of solar in general, but certainly the farther north you go, the less return you get from your solar infrastructure. If Germany truly believed in saving the planet with solar, they would have gotten more bang for the buck by keeping their local coal-fired plants but building solar plants in nations to the south, displacing the need for coal in other regions. For the same investment, this would have achieved greater planetary reduction of CO2 emissions, and also saved Germany from these cold-weather shortfalls.
The efficiency of solar panels begins to drop above 107 degrees. They kill birds, too, like wind generators. An array of solar panels can reflect and create a converged hot spot up above like a magnifying glass, and birds burst into flame when they fly through them.

And we are thinking about solar all wrong. First we need more efficient panels before we fill the plant with failed solar panel waste.
Second, we need to roofing houses with panels, not filling large empty (or emptied) places with em. And wind, that’s another whole debate.

We have been advised to expect rolling blackouts here in Kansas City. 30 minutes to an hour. What concerns me is having the electrical company or City make to blackouts permanent just like they did to “flatten the curve” even when the weather gets warmer.
Rolling blackouts in ND today. Were shipping a lot of our coal and wind generated power to the south leaving us with less than needed. We just set a local record having went through 11 nights of temps 10 below zero or lower. Hope it’s getting warm in Texas!

It happens that it is snowing, got 4 inch`s last night & up to 10 more inch`s are expected. I gotta be hones we have been a little light for several yeas but light to us means only 5 feet so far this winter.
Well what is normal here……Since 1950 during 35 years the minimum accumulation was over 100 inch`s with 1o of those years the snow accumulation was from 132 inch`s to 198 inch`s.
I must add the information for the previous 70 years prior to 1950 ……how many time`s did the snow fall total more then 100 inch`s ? Just once in 1944.
Local Glowbull Warming idiots say the reason for increased snowfall is the temperature is rising. Well no because 60 % 0f the daily lowest temperatures since 1950 are the individual records for those dates ever recorded while only 40% of highest record temperatures ever recorded have been lower. Supporting this is the fact only time the temperature reached 100 degrees was once in in June 1988 .
The US weather bureau in Cleveland is clueless because in the year the recorded snowfall of 198 inch`s was changed by that Federal weather service from reported 198 inch total to 162 inch`s because Erie must have made a 36 inch error………Yes the Newspaper & 3 TV stations agreed to the 198 inch total but the reported certification was also officially recorded at the US weather group at Erie International Airport.

As a texas resident living smack in the middle of the current freeze, I will state this. Well looking out the window I see homes with solar panels encased in snow and hear people whining when the systems started shutting down three days into this freeze due to the lack of sunlight. These are same SFBs (Shit For Brains) that wanted Bernie for president and Beto for senator. For them I have zero tolerance an less in sympathy for. These are same brain dead morons that have such hate for President Trump, they would put a senile fool in the White House. Going forward it is now time that these be reminded what climate change is.
